- List the contact name, phone number, and organization of the person with whom you volunteered.
- Name: Eduardo Lomeli
- Phone: (562) 858-9828
- Organization: Alpha IT Support
- What qualified this person as an expert in your topic choice?
- Mr. Lomeli sets up, repairs, and maintains computer networks for businesses. He had previous experience in the actual programming/coding aspect which is also a service their company provides.
- List three questions for further exploration now that you've completed your summer hours.
- A small business that set up a basic computer network shows the simplest way a system like this works. How can this be applied to a larger grid (i.e. nationwide/worldwide)?
- What is more helpful, the technical skills or creativity when it comes to computer science, which is a scientific and practical approach to computations?
- Is it necessary to have knowledge in both the functional creative aspects of the technical language or is one over the other enough?
- What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
- The main thing I learned from this experience is the difference between the "languages" in the technical world. For instance, HTML/CSS coding is mainly for design and presentation purposes while others such as JavaScript deal more with functions. This helped me consider which aspect I want to focus on: technical or creative.
- What is your senior project topic going to be? How did mentorship help you make your decision? Please explain.
- I am still quite unsure of what my topic should be. I only just found this mentorship opportunity which is looking to be temporary. This mentorship experience has allowed me to see the more practical applications of networks and technology required to keep a business running. However, this mentorship opportunity has me leaning towards the more creative aspects of coding that deals with web design and such.
